The compound composition of sugar is represented outside the Chemistry building. Few students realize what the sculpture is but the red, black and white represent the atoms.

Courtney Allazar sold back an English book for $60. Jamie Allan and Jason Garza work for the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on campus. They buy back books at the end of every semester to give students the opportunity to have a little cash on hand at the start of the summer.

Game Two: Shreveport v. Austin Blacks

Karl Tolar and Ed Doka lift Hal Struckman to catch the ball during a line out for Shreveport Rugby. They played the Austin Blacks January 17 on their own turf for a win 30-24.

Game Three: Shreveport @ Dallas Harlequins

Angelo Del Vecchio dishes out the ball to the Shreveport Rugby (black/red/yellow jerseys) team. They beat the Dallas Harlequins 20-7 in Dallas March 24. The match tested the team's ability to work in near freezing temperatures. The Harlequins were thought to win since they're a Super League team and SRFC is a Division I team.

Karl Tolar, a Shreveport prop (loosehead), attempts to keep the scrum in play during a match against the Dallas Harlquins. The 20-7 win for Shreveport boosted their spirits for the rest of the season.
Angelo Del Vecchio, a Shreveport scrumhalf (center), passes the ball out from a ruck to James Arthur, a Shreveport hooker. The cold weather did not keep Shreveport Rugby from beating the Dallas Harlequins 20-7.Kevin Wiggins, Shreveport 8-man, breaks away after a Dallas player tries to tackle him. Wiggins played a key role in Shreveport's March 24 win at Dallas.

Game Seven: Shreveport @ The Woodlands

Kevin Harrell, a Shreveport flanker, passes the ball laterally to Josh Jones as he runs up the side. The duo unsucessfully completes the play because the Woodlands' flanker tackled Jones. The match ended with Shreveport winning the game 48-0.Josh Jones attempts to catch a ball that was kicked by The Woodlands' fullback. his effort along with the help of a teammate, Bear Trant, successfully brought the ball to safety in the hands of the Shreveport team.
Kevin Wiggins, Shreveport's 8-man, touches the ball down in the try zone. Rugby scores are much like football scores, but a "try" is worth 5 points and the kick after is worth 2 points. Josh Jones successfully kicked the point after kick allowing Shreveport to maintain their lead.

Game Nine: Shreveport v. Dallas Reds
Bear Trant, # 11, and Anthony "Sweet Cakes" Gregory meet with the referree to discuss Sweet Cakes' yellow card. The altercation between the players got of hand when Sweet Cakes punched a wing on the other team in defense of a Shreveport player. Like soccer, a yellow card is received after a severe penalty but in rugby, a player is put in the "sin bin." The player is taken out for part of the game and the team is not allowed to add a player.

Timothy Siegmund, an inside center for Shreveport, punts the ball up field to keep the Reds from scoring. Kicking, aside from running, is the only way a player can put the ball forward in rugby.
After his yellow card, Sweet Cakes helped Shreveport gain meters in the 2nd half. The Shreveport Rugby Football Club beat the Dallas Reds 20-10.

Game Ten: Shreveport v. The WoodlandsJosh Jones, Timothy Siegmund, and Scott Moody wait for the ball to come out of the scrum (left). The second game against the Woodlands resulted in another win for Shreveport, with the Louisiana team winning 44-15.
A Shreveport scrum allows the team to advance towards a try. With a win in this game and the next game against the Austin Huns, Shreveport will secure the top position in the Texas Rugby Union. The April 18th game against the huns resulted in another win for the Louisiana team allowing them their first championship since the club was established.
Game Eleven: Playoffs: Shreveport v. Kansas City Blues

Mia's Pub, a longtime sponsor of the Shreveport Rugby Club, donated the use of their PA system for the first playoff match. Shreveport played hard against the Kansas City Blues, a member of the Western Rugby Union, and came out on top in a nail biting game.
During an attempt to score, Mario "V" Vaiso, a Shreveport wing, was pushed into a baseball backstop feet from the pitch. He needed stitches in his scalp but decided to continue playing the game after he was bandaged up. A quick trip to a doctor's office after the game required 3 stitches.

Former Stephen F. Austin State University rugby players make up almost half of the Shreveport Rugby team. Pictured left to right: Sean Davis, Will Wood, Angelo Del Vecchio, Mr. Gallion, Kevin Harrell, Ed Doka, (kneeling) Josh Jones, Timothy Siegmund, and Karl Tolar. The SFA alumni travel to Shreveport at least once a week to practice with the team.
The Shreveport Rugby Football Club celebrates after a close win over the Kansas City Blues. Shreveport was up by 1 point over the Blues and kept the lead with less than 2 minutes remaining. With the first playoff game down, the team heads to the Sweet 16s where they will play against a team from Los Angeles in Austin, Texas. Before the playoff game, sponsors put up flyers inviting people to come out to the game. This flyer was found at Mia's Pub, a hot spot for Shreveport Rugby players during their season. After the 32-31 win over the Kansas City Blues, both teams gathered at the pub to celebrate, shower and eat.

A sign near the old "Free Speech" area on SFA's campus was prominently displayed during a sermon against sinners. The preacher, Brother Saint Jesse, who wouldn't answer any questions the photographer asked, riled up the campus Tuesday and Wednesday. Many students displayed their disagreements through arguments and shouting but they did not sway the preacher. A pair of Radio/Television majors interviewed him for a class project while about 20 students looked on.
